FACT SHEET:  Soroptimist Making a Difference for Women Award

            Program Summary

Soroptimist International of Mendocino-Sonoma Coast, Inc. (SIMSC) participates in the Soroptimist Making a Difference for Women Award program, which honors ordinary women in our community, who through their professional activities or their personal or volunteer efforts, make extraordinary differences to improve the lives of women and girls on the Mendocino-Sonoma Coast. Their efforts help to promote issues that are important to the Soroptimist organization. The program enables the club to thank these women and encourage others to explore ways to assist women and girls.

            Award Levels

The program begins at the local Soroptimist club level where SIMSC recognizes the award winner with a $500 donation to the charitable organization of her choice. Award winners at the club level are eligible for additional financial awards at other levels of Soroptimist International of the Americas organization.

            Eligibility Requirements and Nomination Forms

Women who are improving the lives of other women or girls through their professional, personal or volunteer activities are eligible for the Making a Difference for Women Award. These women have identified and focused on a need in their communities, which has significantly contributed to the improvement of women and girls’ lives. A Making a Difference for Women Award candidate should be a woman who:

  • has worked to improve the lives of women and girls,

  • has had a significant impact on the lives of women and girls,

  • would inspire and encourage other women

Although Soroptimist clubs are free to honor a woman for a lifetime of good work, the majority of the work should have occurred within the past two years. Previous award winners, Soroptimists, and Soroptimist employees are not eligible for the award.

Nomination forms are available from SIMSC’s website: www.simsc.org, the Coast Community Library, Action Network, Redwood Grill and Century 21 Real Estate (Toni Wilson), or by contacting Dawn Faherty, Making a Difference for Women Award Committee, at (707) 884-3950. Nomination form and statement are due on or before December 1, 2008 and should be mailed to MADW, SIMSC, PO Box 1064, Gualala, CA 95445-1064.
